Why you might be more likely to see a platypus at Tidbinbilla now

Platypuses rescued during the severe drought in the ACT six years ago have finally got back to what counts as platypus normal life.

They spent months in captivity in a zoo but, once returned to old waterways, they seemed to remember old habits.

Their drama started as the pools at the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve dried to dust in the great drought of 2019. Seven platypuses, estimated at the time to be more than half of the population at Tidbinbilla were taken and housed at Taronga Zoo in Sydney.
