Why the Dodgers wear a 34 patch on their jerseys in the World Series, explained

We’ve seen some Major League Baseball teams wear patches on their sleeves over the years to pay tribute to franchise heroes, and the Los Angeles Dodgers did the same starting in the 2024 World Series.

After the death of Cy Young winner Fernando Valenzuela — a beloved member of the organization who then became a radio announcer for the franchise — the Dodgers added the No. 34 patch with his first name displayed. It was one of the multiple tributes the Dodgers had ahead of Game 1.

It’s a beautiful tribute to him and one that we’ll continue to see throughout the 2025 MLB season for the Dodgers.
