Are too many men in managerial roles and on golf club boards making all the decisions? And is it possible to create an equal, balanced club environment when only around 12% of the membership is female?
This remains one of the biggest hurdles facing golf. There is a deep-rooted sense that members simply do not like change. Just because a venue has signed up to The R&A’s Women in Golf Charter does not automatically mean it creates an inclusive culture. I have visited clubs that proudly display their Charter credentials, yet have little genuine desire to attract female players because they already have queues of men waiting to join.
