Why have people received £10 from DWP? Mystery Christmas benefit payment explained

It might only be good for a pint and change in London, or a few Tube rides across town, but the Government is giving thousands of people £10 this Christmas – and it might have already appeared in their bank accounts.

Payments are starting to be received under the heading of “DWP XB” – which is an extra benefit and not part of the standard run for universal credit.
