Andy Dick has said he is experiencing memory issues due to the “five to seven holes” in his brain following an apparent overdose he suffered on the streets of Los Angeles in December.
Late last year, the 60-year-old comedian alarmed fans and colleagues when a video of him slumped over a staircase in broad daylight went viral. The clip showed bystanders administering Narcan — a fast-acting drug used to reverse opioid overdoses — as paramedics responded to the scene.
Dick, who has been vocal about his struggle with addiction over the years, revealed on Tuesday’s episode of the Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast that his heart stopped during the health scare.
The NewsRadio alum said that all he remembers is “waking up in the ambulance.” “There were no bright lights,” he said, adding that he was “purple, not breathing.”
Dick shared that doctors took a scan of his head and found “about five to seven holes” in his brain, which have affected his memory.

Asked by host Mandel whether he meant “lesions,” Dick replied, “That’s not the word I remember they used.”
Shortly after his near-death experience, Dick entered rehab despite initial resistance. He has since checked out of rehab and is now staying at a sober living facility that does not allow substance use.
“They drug test you,” he explained. “I’m not high. I don’t take pills. I don’t do anything except coffee.”
Speaking to TMZ ahead of his latest rehab stint, the comedian and convicted sex offender suggested he had overdosed on crack cocaine. However, he later corrected himself, telling the New York Post that he believed fentanyl was actually the cause of his near-fatal overdose.
“It has to be [fentanyl],” he said. “That’s the only thing that can kill you that quickly, like I just dropped.”
Dick was convicted of misdemeanor sexual battery in November 2022 and ordered to register as a sex offender after being accused of groping an Uber driver’s genitals in West Hollywood in 2018.
He told Vice in 2016 that he had been to rehab 20 times to deal with drug and alcohol abuse.
Dick is best known for TV roles in shows like The Ben Stiller Show, NewsRadio and Less Than Perfect. He also briefly appeared in two failed MTV series: sketch comedy series The Andy Dick Show and a reality show called The Assistant. He began his career doing improv and stand-up gigs.
