The hormonal connection is direct
Gallstones are forming in Indian women in their twenties and early thirties at rates that would have been unusual a generation ago. A 2018 study published in the Indian Journal of Gastroenterology found gallstone prevalence in Indian women significantly higher than in men, with urban women showing accelerating rates tied to dietary and hormonal factors. The stones themselves are mostly cholesterol-based, hardened deposits that form when bile, the digestive fluid the liver produces, becomes chemically imbalanced.
