Why Dublin teenagers are wearing suits to see new Minions movie - latest trend taking cinemas by storm

Cinema-goers across the world have been left confused after droves of teens showed up to screenings of Minions: The Rise of Gru looking rather overdressed for the occasion.

The phenomenon has taken theatres by storm as rows of cinemas have been taken up by the dapper young men.

The trend which originated on TikTok seems to have started purely as a bit of craic but has now really caught on, with some teens even convincing their parents they are taking them to a fancy restaurant before turning up to the cinema dressed to the nines.

To join in on the trend, fans simply dress their best in a full suit, or some have opted for jeans and a yellow t-shirt or, of course, a yellow t-shirt and denim overalls just like the minions themselves.

People took to Twitter to share their delight at the bizarre trend.

One said: “saw a load of lads in their suits in dundrum and my mam would not believe me that they were on their way to see the minions movie”.

A second commented: “No I went to see it today and someone wore a suit ??? Is this a thing”.

While a third wrote: “yes i’ve seen it on tiktok loads of teenage boys all proper dressing up to see it idk how it started hahahaha”

“I saw it yesterday and there was a group in suits and another group all in yellow shirts and denim overalls”, commented a fourth.

A new trend is now being organised online, calling all teens to dress up for the Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

Following its release next year, people will be dawning their most Ken and Barbie looks as they pay homage to the legendary characters that have stood the test of time.
