British Airways flight BA295 was reported, based on flight‑tracking data, to be turning back towards London after signalling a general emergency over Ireland during its journey to Chicago. Flightradar24 recorded the aircraft squawking 7700 at an altitude of 9,000 feet. The reason for the emergency had not been disclosed at the time of the update.

The incident came days after an emergency diversion involving flydubai flight FZ1073, on 30 September. That service, bound for Tel Aviv, diverted to Tabuk in Saudi Arabia after broadcasting an emergency squawk code. The two events involved different flights and airlines, and the cause of BA295's emergency remained unclear.
