Mikel Arteta has been clear with how he plans to use the summer transfer window to Arsenal's advantage and bridge the gap between themselves and the teams at the top of the Premier League.
"We want to take the club to the next level," the Spaniard said in his press conference ahead of the final game of last season against Everton. "That's the ambition. In order to do that we have a very clear plan again, how we want to do it and execute it, and there are no secrets. We need resources and we need to increase the quality and the depth of the squad."
Either side of those comments, Manchester City agreed a deal in principle with Borussia Dortmund for Erling Haaland, Liverpool have signed Fabio Carvalho from Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur have bolstered their ranks with the signing of Ivan Perisic on a free transfer.
