The BBC is preparing to close the television broadcast services of BBC Three and BBC Scotland in spring 2027 as part of a sweeping cost-cutting programme designed to save £500 million by 2028. The changes will also affect BBC Radio 4 Extra, while around 100 jobs are set to be cut at BBC News.
The decision reflects mounting financial pressure on the publicly funded broadcaster, alongside changing viewing habits as audiences increasingly turn to streaming platforms and on-demand services. However, the closures do not mean all programming associated with the channels will disappear. Much of their content is expected to remain available through digital platforms, including BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds.
