Alexandra Popp is out of Germany's starting XI to face England in the Women's Euro 2022 final at Wembley Stadium.
The striker suffered an injury in the warm-up, with Germany confirming on social media that she had ‘muscular problems’ and was forced to withdraw from the starting line-up and drop to the bench. Lea Schuller replaced Popp in the starting XI.
Popp, who plays domestically for Wolfsburg, is the joint-top scorer at this year’s Euros. She has scored six goals, the same number as England’s Beth Mead.

In the race for the Golden Boot, Mead has five assists to her name compared to Popp’s none while Lionesses teammate Alessia Russo has four goals so far.
Speaking ahead of the final, Popp insisted that the pressure is on England because they are the home nation. The 31-year-old said: “The final on Sunday will be intense mentally and physically.
“I think the pressure is more on the English side, precisely because it takes place in their own country.
“We know that from 2011 (when Germany hosted the World Cup): suddenly everyone expects something from you. We have nothing left to lose and we have an attitude with which we can go into the game completely free.”
