The New Orleans Saints are preparing for their season opener against the Tennessee Titans, which will have Marshon Lattimore facing a familiar opponent from a previous intense Week 1 matchup.
The Titans signed former Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Deandre Hopkins to a two-year contract this offseason. The last time the Saints faced Hopkins in Week 1, was with the Texans in 2019 for the season opener that went down to the wire.
Buy Saints TicketsIn that Week 1 matchup, Pro Football Focus charting put Lattimore in coverage on Hopkins for seven targets. The former Texans receiver caught four passes for 51 yards, the four passes were important as they resulted in two first downs and a touchdown, it wasn’t all bad as Hopkins also dropped a pass. His longest catch against Lattimore went for 38 yards. The game went on to end in a last-second Wil Lutz field goal from 58 yards out.
Situations have changed a bit in the years, but we should still be in store for a great matchup between the two. Lattimore is coming off of a season in which he had a lot of injury issues. Hopkins has been dealing with poor quarterback play and hasn’t made it through a season without missing major time since 2020.
