If the Pittsburgh Steelers don’t select one of the five big quarterbacks in the 2022 NFL draft, this offseason will go down as the greatest smokescreen of all time. Pittsburgh has dedicated a considerable amount of resources toward scouting the top quarterbacks, with all other positions falling well behind.
So if we assume the Steelers are going to draft a quarterback in the first round, who is your pick?
There are basically three scenarios in play. First, the Steelers make a huge trade up into the top five and draft Liberty’s Malik Willis. There’s little denying Willis is going to go very early.
Next up the Steelers could make a slightly less blockbuster trade to select Pitt’s Kenny Pickett. There’s always some hope Pickett lasts until pick No. 20 but more likely the Steelers would have to move up around a half dozen spots to be sure.
Finally, the Steelers could stand pat. If they do, they should have their pick of Ole Miss’ Matt Corral, Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder and North Carolina’s Sam Howell to pick from. At least one of these guys might even be around in the second round but we are talking first round only.
