Who is Trevoh Chalobah? Chelsea star gets last-minute England World Cup squad call-up

  • Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has received a last-minute call-up to England’s World Cup squad following an injury to Tino Livramento.
  • Livramento has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury, and Thomas Tuchel has moved quickly to name his replacement ahead of England’s opening game against Croatia on Wednesday.
  • Chalobah, 26, came through Chelsea’s academy, but has been sent out on loan on several occasions during his career, enjoying spells at Ipswich, Huddersfield, Lorient and Crystal Palace.
  • Chalobah was recalled from his loan spell at Palace in January 2025 and has established himself as a Chelsea regular over the past 18 months, making 34 Premier League appearances in the 2025-26 season.
  • He has one England cap to his name, and despite being primarily a centre-back, Chalobah has been given the nod over the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Lewis Hall to replace versatile full-back Livramento.
