Who is the new Late Late Show host Patrick Kielty - everything you need to know

Patrick Kielty has been placed firmly in the spotlight after RTE's announcement that he is set to be the new host of the Late Late Show.

Kielty will be the fourth presenter of the RTE chat show for its 61st season next September after Ryan Tubridy, Pat Kenny and Gay Byrne. The 52-year-old TV personality hails from Dundrum, Co Down but he kicked off his stand-up career in Belfast, as host of Northern Ireland’s first comedy club The Empire Laughs Back.

Since then, he has built a stellar career across TV and radio, while his live stand-up tours have sold out across Ireland and the UK. Patrick also fronted his own show Patrick Kielty Almost Live on BBC One from 1998 to 2003.

He featured big names including singing sensation Shania Twain, the late Meat Loaf as well as former Oasis star Noel Gallagher. He has also dabbled successfully in radio, as well as co-presenting ITV's This Morning.

His BAFTA-nominated My Dad, The Peace Deal and Me saw him named UK documentary host of the year at the 2018 Grierson Awards. The powerful documentary delved into the tragic death of his father, who was shot dead in 1988 by the UDA, loyalist paramilitary soldiers, when Patrick was just 16 years old.

Meanwhile, his most recent film, Patrick Kielty: One Hundred Years of Union won an RTS award. He also stars in the feature film Ballywalter alongside IFTA-nominated Seana Kerslake.

The comedian is married to television presenter Cat Deeley. The pair actually met and became friends in 2002 while working on Fame Academy but things didn't become romantic until much later, RSVP reported. Cat and Patrick got married back in 2012 and they have two children together, Milo and James.
