Who is the Earl of Snowdon and how does he relate to Queen Elizabeth II?

After Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8 at the age of 96, her state funeral will be held later today at 11am in Westminster Abbey.

World leaders from across the globe will be in attendance, including the President of the USA, Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.

Prime Minister Liz Truss will also be there and will speak during the service which is set to last around an hour.

All the Royal Family will be present too, led by King Charles III, Prince William and Prince Harry.

During the procession, viewers will also spot other family members, including the Queen’s daughter Anne, Princess Royal and disgraced Royal Prince Andrew.

Who is the Earl of Snowdon?

David Armstrong-Jones, the Earl of Snowdon, is the Queen’s nephew and therefore has been taking centre stage during events across the national period of mourning.

He is the only son of the late Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones.

Margaret of the Queen’s sister who sadly died back in 2002.

Despite his royal titles, Lord Snowdon is a furniture designer and owns his ow company called David Linley Furniture.

He produces high-end furniture which is sold at luxury stores such as Harrods in London.

The 60-year-old Royal took on the title of Earl of Snowdon following the death of his father in 2017, with his previous title being Viscount Linley.

The Earl of Snowdon was married to Serena Alleyne Armstrong-Jones, Countess Snowdon.

The pair tied the knot in 1993 at St Margaret’s Church in Westminster.

Serena comes from Royal stock herself, being the descendant of King Charles II’s illegitimate child, Henry Fitzroy.

Her father, Charles Henry Leicester Stanhope is the Earl of Harrington.

The pair went on to start a family together, having two children Charles Armstrong-Jones, Viscount Linley, and Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones.

Yet, they decided to separate in 2020 with a spokesperson at the time saying they “amicably agreed that their marriage has come to an end and that they shall be divorced”.
