The WNBA Finals are here, and when the New York Liberty take the floor, head coach Sandy Brondello will lead the team.
Brondello has been with the organization since 2022 and completed previous coaching stints with the Phoenix Mercury, Los Angeles Sparks and the San Antonio Silver Stars (now Las Vegas Aces.) During her time as head coach of the Mercury, Brondello won a WNBA championship and was also Coach of the Year.
The Australian native has a decorated career with deep basketball roots. Before coaching, she spent ten seasons in Australia’s Women’s National Basketball League and the Euroleague and completed six seasons in the WNBA. Brondello also has profound ties to Australia’s national team. The former guard was part of multiple medal-winning Olympic teams and, as the current head coach, she helped the team secure a bronze medal during this year’s Paris Olympics.
Here’s a look at Sandy talking about her journey from player to coach.
