Who is Radek Vitek? Manchester United youngster in squad to face Real Sociedad

Young goalkeeper Radek Vitek has been included in the Manchester United travelling squad for Thursday night's Europa League clash with Real Sociedad.

Vitek made his first matchday squad for United back in September when the Reds travelled to Sheriff Tiraspol in the European competition. The Czechia stopper was an unused substitute as United won 2-0 to mark their first victory in this year's competition.

Since then he has not featured in a matchday squad under Erik ten Hag and has instead been playing in the Premier League 2 for the Reds. MEN Sport has taken a look at Vitek's career so far and here is all you need to know about the 19-year-old.

Who is he?

Vitek is a 19-year-old goalkeeper who joined United from Sigma Olomouc back in 2020. He has played predominantly for United's Under-18s and more recently the Under-23s.

What has he done so far?

After making a name for himself at Sigma Olomouc as a youngster, United moved quickly to secure Vitek's signature at the age of just 16. He has since gone from strength to strength and helped the Reds win the FA Youth Cup last season.

He started each of their six Youth Cup matches, including in the final against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford in May. This season, he has already made two appearances for the Under-21s in the Premier League 2, as well as starting for the Under-21s in their 2-1 win over Carlisle United in the Papa Johns Trophy last month.

He has also represented the Czech Republic at Under-15 and Under-17 level.

Why is he in the squad?

Aside from being required to cover the absence of Tom Heaton, the 19-year-old has been included in the squad once again after recently being added to United's Squad B list. The Squad B list is a UEFA rule that allows clubs to register an unlimited number of players.

The rule states: "Each club is entitled to register an unlimited number of players on List B during the season. The list must be submitted by no later than 24.00CET on the day before the match in question."
