Who is Mike Tindall? I’m a Celebrity contestant and husband of Zara Tindall

He has been asked to take part before but the timing was never quite right

It’s that time again. I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! will soon be back on our screens. Presented by comedy duo Ant and Dec, the show is now on its 22nd series.

And fans are looking forward to watching celebs like Boy George and ITV News presenter Charlene White take on the bushtucker trials.

Other celebs confirmed to be entering the jungle include Love Island star Olivia Attwood, MP Matt Hancock, plus England Lioness Jill Scott and radio broadcaster Chris Moyles.

Mike Tindall is the first royal family member to ever sign up for the show. He is friends with Celebrity contestant James Haskell and signed up for the show after Haskell told him about his positive experience.

On joining the show, he has said: “I have been asked on numerous occasions to take part,” he said. “The timing was right this year and Hask did the show and he had been talking about it.”

He has also spoken about looking forward to getting some protein from the bugs he’ll be eating. “I am eight years out of the game now so I am a bit more realistic about food, but I know James said the lack of food can sometimes be hard.

“But at least with the eating trials, you get food in you! It might not taste very nice but at least it is serving a purpose and giving you a protein intake. Bring on those challenges.”

“It is sinking in now that I am taking part. I am ready to rumble!” he added.

Tindall has also said that he knows his fellow rugby friends will be on speed dial to make sure he does all the trials.

“I am fully aware that anyone who has ever played rugby will go, ‘Yeah let’s stitch him up’,” he said.

“All my friendship group has that sort of humour and I know they will definitely want to vote for me! I am prepared to do quite a lot of challenges.”

But who is Mike Tindall?

Who is Mike Tindall and who is he married to?

Mike Tindall, 44, was born to Philip Tindall, a banker for Barclays, and Linda, a social worker.

His rugby career started at the young age of 18, joining Bath Rugby straight from school. After the 1999 Rugby World Cup, Tindall played regularly at both club and country level, and made his England debut against Ireland at Twickenham in 2000 alongside South African-born player Mike Catt.

In total, Tindall has competed in 11 Six Nations Championships for England between 2000 and 2011. He has also played for Gloucester.

In 2011, Tindall’s career was hit with some controversy. He was fined £25,000 by the Rugby Football Union and was removed from its elite player squad after taking part in a dwarf throwing contest on a night out during the 2011 Rugby World Cup. He has previously said that he has no regrets.

He also has two convictions for drink-driving.

Tindall is married to British equestrian and the daughter of Princess Anne, Zara Phillips. The pair got married in July 2011 after the Queen gave her consent to their marriage in a meeting with the Privy Council.

They have two daughters and one son, Mia Grace Tindall (born 2014), Lena Elizabeth Tindall (born 2018) and Lucas Philip (born 2011).

What did Mike Tindall do after rugby?

Since leaving rugby, Tindall has appeared on The Jump and Bear Grylls: Mission Survive. He also hosts a podcast with James Haskell and Alex Payne: The Good, The Bad & The Rugby.

I’m a Celebrity will air on ITV on Sunday, November 7, at 9pm
