Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) confirmed victory in the 2026 Tour de France after a scintillating final stage in Paris where he finished 30th after making the race.
Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Premier Tech) won the stage after and Pogačar escaped on the final ascent of the Montmartre climb and escaping. the pair remained at the front of the race into the final 500m with smallest of leads, and while Pogačar was unable to hold on, Van der Poel did, finishing just head of his celebrating team mate, Jasper Philipsen.
Pogačar won five stages while taking his fifth yellow jersey, dominating the race from start to finish, indeed he was never outside the top four on the GC.
In the end, he put 6.26 into second placed Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe) Isaac del Toro third, 9.42 down behind his victorious team mate.
Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) started the day with an unassailable lead in the points classification, but kept on harvesting points on the last day. Not only did he manager to score in every intermediate sprint throughout the three weeks, he was also third on the final stage.
With only three mountains points available on the final day, Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) retained the polka-dot jersey of mountains classification winner, securing the jersey after his breakaway exploits and remarkable two stage wins in the final week.
