British couturier John Galliano has pulled out of a Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibition that would have placed him at the centre of the 2027 Met Gala. The decision follows weeks of criticism over his history of antisemitic and racist abuse and the timing of the honour on Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The Met announced in early August that its spring 2027 Costume Institute exhibition, 'John Galliano: Horizons', would focus on the designer's work and open alongside the Met Gala. It was a rare honour previously given to only two living designers, Yves Saint Laurent and Rei Kawakubo.
