Who is Dr. Cerina Fairfax? Wife killed in murder-suicide by former Lt. Governor

• Former Lieutenant Governor of Virginia Justin Fairfax fatally shot his wife, Dr. Cerina Fairfax, several times in the basement of their home before going upstairs and shooting himself in a bedroom Thursday morning, Fairfax County police chief Kevin Davis said.
• Fairfax and his wife were in the early stages of separation proceedings and were still living together, and Davis said the couple had been involved in an “ongoing domestic dispute surrounding a complicated or messy divorce.” The couple’s teenage children were at home at the time of the shooting.
• Dr. Cerina Fairfax, 49, had a family dental practice in Fairfax, Virginia, before her murder.
• “She is committed to serving not only her patients but others as well through participation in community outreach programs, volunteer and sponsorship opportunities, vocational training programs, and contributions to local charities and nonprofits intended to aid individuals and/or organizations helping those in need,” her website said.
• Dr. Cerina Fairfax graduated from Duke University in 1999 and obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, graduating magna cum laude from VCU’s Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in 2005. She was a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Society.
