Who Is Daniel Berger’s Caddie?

Following the Covid-19 pandemic, Daniel Berger was one of the PGA Tour's most in-form players, claiming victories at the 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge and 2021 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Meanwhile, he was also part of the winning US team at the 2021 Ryder Cup. During that time, Berger had Josh Cassell on his bag.

That is also the case in 2026, although it doesn't tell the full story of events in the five years since that run of excellent form.

In June 2022, Berger's increasingly impressive career was put on hold when he sustained a back injury, and he didn't play again until the 2024 American Express.

When he made his long-awaited PGA Tour comeback, it wasn't alongside Cassell, but veteran caddie DJ Nelson.

That was a short-lived arrangement, and, by the 2024 Puerto Rico Open, Berger had turned to Joaquin Lolas before another new caddie, Scott Sajtinac, arrived on the scene in time for that year's Valspar Championship.

However, the revolving door of caddies working with Berger as he eased his way back into life on the Tour eventually came to a halt when, once again, he linked up with Cassell.

As well as his early success with Berger, Cassell has plenty of experience alongside other professionals, having begun caddying on the PGA Tour in 2000, working alongside the likes of Jason Dufner, Billy Horschel, John Senden, Paul Gow, Aaron Baddeley and Geoff Ogilvy.

Along the way, there were impressive successes, including Senden's victory at the 2015 Valspar Championship and Horschel's win at the 2017 AT&T Byron Nelson.

Another big achievement for Cassell came during the spell when Berger was out injured, when he was Justin Rose's full-time caddie, helping him claim his first PGA Tour title in four years at the 2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Since reuniting with Berger, the recipe for more success has clearly been there, including a T3 at the 2025 RBC Heritage.

After two rounds of the 2026 Arnold Palmer Invitational, the partnership was yielding results again, with Berger in a great position to claim his first PGA Tour title since 2021, building a five-shot lead at the halfway stage of the Bay Hill tournament.
