Chris Moyles will take part in this year’s I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! after turning down the ITV show for a number of years.

Ten years after hosts Ant and Dec first said they would love to have him on the show, the former BBC Radio DJ believes 2022 “feels like the right time”.

Other celebrities taking part in I’m a Celebrity include pop singer Boy George, MP Matt Hancock, Love Island star Olivia Attwood, Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver and former England Lionesses footballer Jill Scott.

Moyles, 48, revealed the news of his participation on Radio X this week. “In the past, I always said no to offers to take part,” he said. “But this year, I didn’t say no immediately and I ended up going to a meeting.”

“Now I don’t know why I said yes,” he added. “But I am a huge fan of the show and I know what I am letting myself in for. My friends who have done it before have told me I will have a great time.”

Moyles admitted on Radio X last year that he would struggle on the show, which takes place in the Australian jungle, because of his crippling fear of heights. He said he faced his fear when he took his girlfriend Tiffany Austin’s niece to the outdoor adventure attraction, Go Ape.

Who is Chris Moyles?

Moyles is a radio and television presenter and author. He currently presents The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X.

Born in Leeds in 1974, he began his national radio career in 1996 on Capital FM. He went on to host Radio 1’s breakfast show from 2004 until 2012.

Since 2015, he has hosted the breakfast show on Radio X.

Moyles has a controversial presenting style, which has landed him in trouble in the past.

He was censored by Ofcom for parodying two of Will Young’s songs in a way that “could have reasonably been interpreted by listeners as promoting or condoning certain negative stereotypes based on sexual orientation”.

He has also been criticised for sexually inappropriate jokes such as one in 2002 that he would go to bed with Charlotte Church “now that she had reached 16”.

Moyles’s television career has involved him hosting The Chris Moyles Show, Big Brother’s Big Mouth, Celebrity Juice, Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast and 8 Out of 10 Cats.

When does I’m A Celebrity return?

ITV’s I’m A Celeb will start on Sunday, November 6 at 9pm.
