Who is Calvin Robinson? Presenter sacked in fallout from Laurence Fox row

Calvin Robinson has been sacked by GB News, after publicly voicing support for Laurence Fox and Dan Wootton.

Laurence Fox has also been sacked after comments he made on air about a female journalist. Fox caused uproar last week when he asked what “self-respecting man” would “climb into bed” with Ava Evans. “Who would want to shag that?” he said.

In a statement, the channel said: “Laurence Fox and Calvin Robinson were both suspended last week pending internal investigations that have now concluded.

“As of today, GB News has ended its employment relationship with Laurence Fox and Calvin Robinson.

“The internal investigation into Dan Wootton continues.”

More than 8,800 people complained to Ofcom about Fox's comments, which launched the initial investigation.

Last week, GB News also suspended Wootton, who has since issued an apology.

The boss of GB News, Angelos Frangopoulos, had also apologised to Ms Evans for the comments, saying they “should not have gone to air” and should have been “properly challenged” by Wootton.

Fox and Wootton have both apologised since and GB News is going through an internal investigation.

However, many have found themselves wondering who Calvin Robinson is following his recent comments.

Who is Calvin Robinson?

Calvin Robinson, 37, is a British cleric, conservative political commentator and broadcaster.

The Nottinghamshire native completed his studies at the University of Westminster, where he studied computer game design and programming.

He went on to work in the tech industry before becoming a computer science teacher at the St Mary’s and St John’s Church of England School in Hendon. He also worked as a video games journalist for some time, going on to create the video games site God is a Geek.

Between 2019 and 2021 he worked as the school governor of the Michaela School in Wembley and in 2020, he joined the education sub-committee of the board of the Royal Academy of Dance.

What did Calvin Robinson say?

Robinson went on X, formerly known as Twitter, to share his thoughts on the comments that got Wootton and Fox suspended.

He explained: “I will not be appearing on Dan Wootton Tonight without Dan Wootton. Dan Wootton had a significant part to play in building GB News. He invited me along pre-launch, he also brought so many people onboard. Behind the cameras as well as on-screen talent.

“Including the careerist ambitious ones who are currently gunning for his job. These people are worse than the woke mob, because these vultures are giving the mob ammunition and essentially escalating the channel’s demise.”

He added: “I get that people have to pay the bills. But GB News is more than a job – it’s certainly more than a chance to be on the telly – it is a mission.

“An opportunity to shift the dial in public discourse. To have the conversations the shills on other channels cannot or will not have. We must do all we can to avoid GB News becoming just another MSM outlet. Which it will, if we let it.

“Our bosses are scared. Afraid of Ofcom, afraid of the woke mob, and afraid they’re going to run out of money unless they manage to sort this advertising problem out. We need to give them courage, not enable them to capitulate. If they pander to the woke mob, we are finished. Someone else might get the prime time slot for a bit, but it will not be a promotion if you jump in Dan’s grave. You’ll just be making space alongside his corpse for your own.

“Standing up for Dan is standing up for the very idea of GB News. If he falls, we all fall. We are about to see if people really care about the project, or they just want a better slot, with a bigger team and better pay.”

His political career

Robinson’s political career began in 2016 when he ran as a Conservative Party candidate for the Kilburn ward of Brent Council, north-west London. He was defeated by the Labour candidate. In 2018, he stood for election to Camden Council’s Swiss Cottage ward, but lost to a Labour candidate again.

A year later, in 2019, he stood as a Brexit Party candidate for Broxtowe in the general election, but decided to withdraw his candidacy to support the Conservative candidate instead.

Robinson had been appearing on TalkRadio and GB News before he was given his regular slot on Sunday afternoons to host Calvin’s Common Sense Crusade.

Is Calvin Robinson a vicar?

No, Calvin Robinson is not a vicar.

He studied theological studies at St Stephen’s House, Oxford with the hope of becoming a deacon for the Church of England. However, his application was unsuccessful.

He subsequently left the Church of England to join the Free Church of England as an ordained deacon in 2022.

He is also one of the founding members of the Anglo-Catholic Brotherhood of the Holy Trinity.
