The company asked members to rate the beach, attractions, scenery, value for money - and more - for nearly 100 seaside towns and villages nationwide, as The Daily Record reports.

Two picture-esque Scottish locations were placed in the top 10. Coming in at sixth, was the East Lothian town, which has built up a reputation, without the award recognition, for being a top local tourist attraction, ideal for a long weekend away.

North Berwick scored highly, dialling in an overall score of 81%. As well as this latest recognition, the town was also recently voted the UK's most relaxing place to visit.

A spokesperson for Which? said: "Thirty of the nearly 100 British destinations were awarded four or five stars for peace and quiet.

"This will be especially valuable this year given that uncertainty over foreign trips has seen a booking boom in domestic breaks.

"Perhaps this is one reason lesser-known spots such as Beer in Devon and Ullapool in the Scottish Highlands have risen up our rankings, replacing old but overrun favourites in Cornwall."

St Andrews was given five stars for attractions and awarded 83% overall, placing it in fourth.

The stunning historic town on the Fife coast is a big draw for its beautiful beaches and plethora of activities and landmarks.

The university town is known for distilleries like Eden Mill and Kingsbarns and its popular golf courses.

When it comes to North Berwick, the potential offerings are endless. There's golf course, of course, the famous Bassrock, which is visible from Edinburgh, Tantallon Castle, The Museum of Flight, The Scottish Seabird Centre and many more, including popular restaurants, hotels and bars, all coming with all-inclusive coastal views.
