Which council areas will be affected by bin strikes in Scotland?

Bin workers went on strike across parts of Scotland earlier this week after talks failed to reach a pay agreement.

Members of the Unite union walked out on August 24 to take part in seven days of industrial action which is set to end on August 31.

It comes after waste workers in Edinburgh walked out on Thursday, August 18 in protest at a "derisory" and "pathetic" pay rise offer from Cosla.

The strike is scheduled to last until August 30, however, rubbish is already piling up in the city centre streets and black bags are rapidly piling up outside homes.

Unison and GMB workers will also be hitting the picket lines over next couple of weeks after talks broken down earlier today. Deputy First Minister John Swinney is now being urged to intervene to resolve the issue.

A COSLA Spokesperson said: “We met with our Trade Union Colleagues earlier today. It was both a constructive and a productive meeting and a new firm offer has now been put to them. It is our hope that they will now take this offer away and consult their membership on it.”
