Which? advice for airport passengers stuck in chaotic queues

Long queues at airports across the UK continue, much to the frustration of eager holiday-makers.

It was previously reported that delays were reported to be in excess of three hours and queues were pictures "snaking around" Leeds Bradford Airport, with some passengers missing their intended flights. Today (May 11), further issues have been reported at the airport with the situation being branded a "shambles".

This is echoed in other airports right across the UK, with huge queues and delays spotted in Manchester and Birmingham. Travel experts have urged travellers not to arrive "too early" as this could be having a knock on effect.

But as the frustrations continue at "chaotic scenes", passengers who may have missed their flights have been given some all important advice. Rory Boland, Editor of Which? Travel, said important information is often buried in the terms and conditions, which could mean travellers can rebook their flights for free.

He added: "Lengthy airport security queues are causing huge stress for travellers ahead of their holidays. If your flight is due to depart shortly and you are stuck in the queue, make a fuss and ask a member of staff to take you to the front.

"If it looks like you’ll miss the flight through no fault of your own, it is important to tell your airline as soon as you can. Buried in the Ts&Cs of many airlines is a promise to help, and some will let you rebook for free in such instances."

Those who miss their flight due to "extraordinary circumstances" may be able to claim on their insurance. Rory added: "Evidence that you turned up at the time advised by the airport or airline could be crucial, so keep your bus ticket or parking stub, and any receipts from shops or restaurants inside the terminal."

Frustrated passengers slammed Leeds Bradford Airport which was named the 'worst in the UK' after customers again faced further travel chaos today. The airport has come under fire in recent days after huge queues saw passengers missing flights.

"Huge queues" have been photographed by airport users, with some passengers reportedly stuck in line at security just 10 minutes before their flight was due to depart.
