Manchester City are still searching for a senior left-back signing before the transfer window closes, regardless of whether Anderlecht's Sergio Gomez joins the club.
Gomez, 21, came through the youth systems at Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund, making three senior appearances for the latter and spending time on loan at Huesca in Spain before joining Anderlecht last year for around £2m. He has made 50 appearances for the Belgian side, who were managed by Vincent Kompany last season, scoring seven goals and registering 15 assists.
Now, he is reportedly close to completing a deal worth around £10m to join City, although he wouldn't be immediately required to solve their first team left-back issues.

Instead, Gomez would be assessed on arrival to determine his best route for development, with a loan out the most likely option. There is a chance he would stay at City and be involved in Pep Guardiola's squad if he impressed the coaching staff, however the club are looking at other senior options for a new left-back before the September 1 transfer deadline.
The current plan is for Gomez to be a development player, rather than to be challenging Joao Cancelo this season if a deal is completed, and a potential loan move to City Football Group sister club Girona has been mentioned in other reports.
City have wanted a new left-back since the departure of Aleks Zinchenko left Guardiola with just two senior full-back options in Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo. Guardiola has namechecked Nathan Ake and academy player Josh Wilson-Esbrand as players who could cover for Cancelo, and insisted they will be happy with their options if a new left-back doesn't arrive.
The Blues walked away from a transfer for Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella, refusing to meet the Seagulls' asking price. He has since joined Chelsea for a fee said to be around £55m, rising to £62m.
