The Queen has died and King Charles III is the new monarch.

The UK’s longest-reigning monarch was beloved around the globe, and travelled extensively during and even before her 70-year reign.

Her death was announced by Buckingham Palace in a statement released at 6.30 pm on Thursday, September 9. “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,” it said.

The new king, Charles III, said: “We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”

New Prime Minister Liz Truss said: “We are all devastated by the news that we have just heard from Balmoral.

“The death of Her Majesty the Queen is a huge shock to the nation and to the world.”

In April 2021, the Queen announced with “deep sorrow” that her husband, Prince Philip, died at the age of 99.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who had been married to the Queen for 73 years, “passed away peacefully” at Windsor Castle on April 9, 2021.

But where was he buried? Here’s all the information.

Where is Prince Philip buried?

Prince Philip passed away on April 9, 2022, at the age of 99 , and was buried in the Royal Vault, at St George’s Chapel.

St George’s Chapel is located at Windsor Castle, in England, and is a castle chapel built in the late-medieval perpendicular gothic style.

Prince Philip died just weeks away from his milestone 100th birthday, on June 10.

Prince Philip and the Queen were married for more than 70 years, and he was the longest-serving consort in British history.

After dedicating his life to royal duty, serving the nation at the monarch’s side, he officially retired from public engagements in the summer of 2017.

Prince Philip married Queen Elizabeth II on November 20, 1947, at Westminster Abbey.

They spent more than seven decades together, tackling the ups and downs of royal life, with the Queen once remarking that Prince Philip had “quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years”.
