Christa Pike, the Tennessee death row inmate who survived a failed lethal injection, has regained consciousness and begun speaking after her legal team feared she was brain dead, according to her attorney.
Pike, 50, woke up on Tuesday, 6 October, six days after Tennessee attempted to execute her with two doses of pentobarbital on 30 September. Attorney Randy Spivey said the team had been told Pike was brain dead and that life support would be withdrawn the following day. No formal medical diagnosis of brain death has been publicly confirmed.
