When TUI, Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2 and British Airways advise passengers to arrive at airport

Queues have been building up in airports across the UK as millions of holidaymakers look to get a much-needed trip abroad.

Social media has been awash of pictures of busy scenes at terminals ahead of the Jubilee bank holiday weekend.

Airports are particularly busy at the moment as families seek to make the most out of their children’s half-term breaks.

Both Glasgow and Edinburgh Airport confirmed longer queues than usual on Tuesday during an especially busy period.

And airports are expected to be a busy year all round as many people try to catch up on two years of lost holidays due to the Covid pandemic.

One department that is bearing the brunt of this is the HM Passport Office - who are expecting more than 9.5 million British passport applications to come through this year.

So with all of this in mind, here is what the major airlines are saying about getting to the airport.

TUI

TUI has urged passengers not too arrive too far in advance of their flight.

The company has reminded customers that the standard check in opens at least two and a half hours before departure.

And for passengers travelling on long-haul flights, the check in opens at least three and a half hours before the plane departs.

In a recent statement, the company apologised to customers who have experienced delays recently.

A spokesperson said: “We would like to apologise to some of our customers who have experienced flight delays in recent days.

“As the UK’s biggest holiday company, our priority is to take customers on holiday safely.

“We continues to work closely with our airport partners to monitor the situation and continue to provide the best possible holiday experience for our customers.”

Ryanair

Ryanair recommends that passengers check in their baggage as “early as possible” - with the bag drop opening two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time.

In a recent email to customers, the budget airline urged all passengers to try and arrive at the airport at least three hours before their flight is due to leave.

A spokesperson for Ryanair said: “Ryanair passengers are advised via their email/Ryanair app to arrive at least three hours before their scheduled departure time.”

EasyJet

EasyJet’s website does not specify a recommended time for passengers to arrive at the airport at the moment.

The firm says that customers can check in between 30 days and two hours before the departure of their flight.

They also advise that departure gates close 30 minutes before departure.

British Airways

British Airways (PA)

British Airways advises passengers to ‘give themselves plenty of extra time’ to get through the airport.

Passengers can also choose their seats and print their boarding passes onto their phone as early as 24 hours before their flight is due to depart.

Customers should also arrive at their departure gate no later than 45 minutes before departure time.

Jet2

Jet2 (Derby Telegraph)

Jet2 advises that its check in desks generally open at least two hours and 30 minutes before the schedule departure time.

The firm advises passengers to arrive at the airport in “good time” as the check in desks close 40 minutes before the flight departs.

Departure gates may close up to 30 minutes before the flight is scheduled to leave.
