Rangers will only axe Giovanni van Bronckhorst if he finds himself cut adrift in the title race, according to former Celtic midfielder Alan Thompson.
The Dutchman's position at the club has been thrown into question at times this season amid a calamitous Champions League campaign that's ended with six straight losses and a goal difference of -20. Performances have also provided cause for concern and they entered the weekend four points behind Celtic at the top of the league.
It's still mainly former boss Steven Gerrard's side after his exit last November though according to Thompson, and he reckons that the title heading to Ibrox can't be ruled out yet. But not bringing it home will not define whether he stays or leaves his post at Rangers. He told Grosvenor Sport: "A lot of the players at Rangers right now are still Steven Gerrard's players so I think Giovanni will want time to build his own team and put his own stamp on things.

"I don't think Rangers will press any buttons on anything unless Celtic go and romp the league by 15 or 20 points.
"That's when the pressure might come but if the title race comes to the last two or three games of the season then who knows.
"Rangers could go on and win the title. If they can at least push Celtic and make it a good title race then he'll definitely be there next season.
