An Australian lawmaker is in a critical condition after being “attacked” outside her electoral office in Wangaratta, northeast of Melbourne, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.

Independent ⁠MP Helen ⁠Haines, 65, was airlifted to hospital with critical injuries after being struck by a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV about 3.35pm on Monday, Victoria Police said.
