When Manchester United vs Chelsea might take place after Premier League fixture decision

Manchester United will return to action after the international break fighting on three fronts.

United are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and last eight of the Europa League, having already won the Carabao Cup, while Erik ten Hag's men will also be aiming to ensure a top four Premier League finish. It means there could still be 19 games for United to play in two months.

This week the Premier League confirmed a rearranged date for United's trip to Brighton, initially called off due to a clash with the FA Cup quarter finals. That game at the Amex will take place on Thursday, May 4 with an 8pm kick-off and be shown live on Sky Sports. As a result, United's game at West Ham has been moved to Sunday, May 7. That match will kick off at 7pm and be broadcast on BT Sport.

But there is still the need to slot in the Old Trafford game against Chelsea, originally scheduled for April 22 but called off due to United being in FA Cup semi-final action. The last four tie with Brighton is set to be on Sunday, April 23, with United in Europa League action the proceeding Thursday.

Ten Hag's side already have nine games to play in April, including two matches against Sevilla in the quarter finals of the Europa League. With the Brighton league clash now inked in, the game with Chelsea is the sole remaining game to be sorted.

There are currently three free midweeks in May to slot in the visit of Graham Potter's side but two could be taken up by Europa League semi-finals if United defeat Sevilla. The two legs of the last four take place on May 11 and 18, leaving the only option for the Chelsea game as the week of May 22, the final week of the top flight.

The Premier League season finishes on Sunday, May 29 with the FA Cup final on Saturday, June 3. The Europa League final is on Wednesday, May 31. In 2017, United almost encountered a similar quandary as they won the League Cup, reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and eventually triumphed in the Europa League.
