When is Universal Credit paid next month? Payment dates for DWP benefits set to change

Some benefit payment dates are set to be moved in August due to the bank holiday on August 26.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and HMRC have confirmed that those receiving certain benefits will receive their payments early.

This will affect payments including Universal Credit and personal independence payments (PIP).

Universal Credit is a payment for people under state pension age on a low income or out of work.

Anyone expecting benefit payments on August 24, August 25, or August 26 will likely get their benefits on August 23 instead.

Here is everything we know:

Which benefits are affected?

The benefits that will be affected have been listed as:

  • Child benefit (paid by HMRC)
  • Tax credits (paid by HMRC)
  • Income Support
  • State pension
  • Universal Credit
  • Jobseekers Allowance
  • Pension Credit
  • Personal Independence Payment
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Carer's Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance

If you expect your benefit payment on August 23 and it doesn't arrive, you should contact the DWP. You can also complain to the Government department if there is an issue with your payment.

If you have a Universal Credit account, you can ring the DWP's complaints line for free on 0800 328 5644, or if you don't, the number is 0800 328 9344. The phone lines are open from 8am to 6pm.

Will anything else change?

The amount you are given will not change. You can read about benefit price changes, which took effect in April 2024, here.

Benefit claimants have been warned that they must make their money last two or three days longer across September.

After August, the next bank holidays that will disrupt benefit payments are December 25 and December 26.

Payments due then will reportedly be paid on Tuesday, December 24 instead.
