When is the official Platinum Jubilee date?

This week the UK will enjoy a four-day bank holiday weekend to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. The event is to mark the Queen's 70 years on the throne.

The unprecedented anniversary, which is actually the first time a British monarch has reached a Platinum Jubilee on the throne, has caused a reshuffle in this year's bank holiday dates.

However, despite many of the landmark events taking place in June, the Queen officially reached 70 years on the throne on February 6, 2022. Her Majesty succeeded to the throne on 6 February 1952.

At the time of her June 1953 coronation, Her Majesty was just 27-years-old. Fast forward to the present day and she is now 96-years old. You can read more on the Queen's reign, here.

Platibum Jubilee celebrations will kick off on June 2 with the Trooping of Colour, which marks the Queen's official birthday, while Party at the Palace will air live from Buckingham Palace on Saturday, May 4.

The celebrations will also see many street parties take place on Sunday, May 5. You can read more on the street parties taking place in Wales, here.
