With the recent heatwave and glorious weather now firmly behind us, it's time to get ready for the colder months.
Time always flies at this time of year and it'll be winter before we know it, meaning there are just a handful of bank holidays left to enjoy in Scotland.
This summer we were treated to an extra day off work, thanks to the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June.
While England, Wales and Northern Ireland have a long weekend to look forward to - having Monday 29 August as a holiday - us Scots have a little longer to wait until the next bank holiday.
When is the next bank holiday in Scotland?
The next Scottish bank holiday falls on Wednesday, November 30.
This day celebrates our patron saint St Andrew and sees Scots celebrate with traditional food and drinks, music and plenty of ceilidh dancing.
Our most recent holiday was at the start of August, while England, Wales and Northern Ireland have their summer bank holiday at the end of this month.
They used to all be on the first Monday of the month, but the rest of the UK moved theirs to the end in 1971 as it clashed with the traditional two week shut-down that many businesses went through in the summer.
When are the rest of the 2022 bank holidays in Scotland?
The final three upcoming bank holidays in Scotland can be found in the table below from gov.uk.
| 30 November | Wednesday | St Andrew’s Day |
| 26 December | Monday | Boxing Day |
| 27 December | Tuesday | Christmas Day (substitute day) |
It's also important to note some of the Bank Holidays happening early next year. These are:
- Monday, January 2 - New Years' Day (substitute day)
- Tuesday, January 3 - January 2 holiday (substitute day)
The extra bank holiday in January only happens in Scotland, and not anywhere else in the UK.
