When is the Battle Royale mode coming back to Warzone?

If you’ve been playing Call of Duty: Warzone lately, you’ve probably noticed that the core Battle Royale mode isn’t in the current playlist. That’s mainly because Activision is putting the spotlight on the newer Black Ops Royale mode.

Naturally, a lot of players are now asking the same question: when is the traditional Battle Royale on Verdansk coming back? Here’s what we know so far.

Why Battle Royale is currently unavailable in Warzone

At present, Raven Software is prioritizing Black Ops Royale as the main experience in Warzone, which explains why the core Battle Royale mode has been rotated out.

Black Ops Royale, inspired by Blackout from Black Ops 4, leans more into tactical gameplay. It puts a bigger focus on smart looting (because there are no custom loadouts and buy stations here) and strategic map rotation, making it feel quite different from the usual run-and-gun formula of BR.

Activision has also temporarily disabled Battle Royale Casual, which is just traditional BR but with bots included. This is because the team is currently testing bots within Black Ops Royale in select regions, specifically Europe and the Middle East. To properly monitor those tests and gather player feedback, the BR Casual playlist had to be taken out for now.

Warzone Battle Royale return date

At the time of writing, there’s still no official date for the return of standard Battle Royale in Warzone, including both the core BR mode and BR Casual on Verdansk.

That said, this doesn’t mean Battle Royale is gone for good. It’s simply been rotated out of the playlist while the developers focus on refining Black Ops Royale, including the addition of Solos. Warzone has always relied on playlist updates, so this kind of change is pretty normal.

If we’re making a smart guess, the next Warzone playlist refresh is the most likely time for Battle Royale to return. The upcoming Warzone playlist update is expected to drop around March 20, when the Extreme Resurgence weekend limited-time mode is set to go live.

While nothing is confirmed yet, that window makes the most sense for Raven to bring the classic big map mode back into rotation. If you want to stay in the loop, it’s worth keeping an eye on official updates from Raven Software and Call of Duty Updates channels on X (formerly Twitter), as well as the Warzone Trello board.

In the meantime, Black Ops Royale remains the main focus. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s worth a few matches just to see how it plays. And if it’s not really your thing, you can always jump into Resurgence or Resurgence Casual to keep your aim sharp while waiting for the traditional Battle Royale and BR Casual to return.
