Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, one of the best games of this console generation, is swinging on to PCs soon.
The web-slinging sequel has only been playable on PS5 since its release a year ago, but that’s about to change.
Here’s what we know about the upcoming port, including its release date, upgrades, special editions and more.
When is Spider-Man 2 releasing on PC?
Spider-Man 2 will arrive on PC on January 30, 2025, as announced by Marvel at the New York Comic Con.
The news isn’t a huge surprise seeing as the sequel’s predecessors, Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, both previously made it to PC.
Sony subsidiary Nixxes Software, which was in charge of porting those games, along with other PlayStation exclusives, will do the same for Spider-Man 2. Of course, it will also get a little help from the game’s original developer Insomniac Games, along with PlayStation and Marvel Games.
How will it be different on PC?
Sony is giving PC players a loaded package. Spider-Man 2 will come stocked with all of the previously released post-launch content (more on those existing features further below), along with enhanced ray-tracing options.
Sony says these will allow PC gamers to take “full advantage of a variety of setups and configurations”, with more details on features and recommended specs to be revealed closer to launch.
For those unfamiliar with the lingo, ray-tracing is a technical term for the recreation of light and reflections in video games. While it’s been around for decades, it exploded into the mainstream with the release of more powerful GPUs in 2018, and has since become the norm on PC and consoles, with each new hardware upgrade promising faster ray-tracing capabilities - case in point, the upcoming PS5 Pro.
As for all the goodies that are already available, the main thing you need to know is that Spider-Man 2 will arrive complete with all of its past updates.
Chief among these is the New Game+ mode that was added as part of a patch in March, allowing you to replay the game with all of your unlocked suits, upgrades and collectibles.
With the addition of Ultimate Levels, you can also keep leveling up your character past the original cap of 60, while nabbing new Symbiote Suits (made of the same gooey, black parasite that later became Venom) as a reward for braving the increased difficulty.
Plus, you’ll get Photo Mode (like a pared-back Photoshop for your NYC-set selfies) and the Fly N’ Fresh Suit Pack on launch. The latter is also coming to PS5 this month.
Will there be a DLC?
Alas, Insomniac has confirmed that it won’t be releasing any DLCs for Spider-Man 2, despite releasing several expansions for the original Spider-Man.
In a blog post, the developer simply said: “We have no additional story content planned.”
How many editions will there be?
At launch next year, players will be able to choose from standard and deluxe editions of the games, with the option to upgrade at any time.
Here’s what you can expect in each version:
