Apple iPhone 16

The latest iPhone has landed on virtual shelves, and with it comes the annual dilemma for Apple loyalists - is it worth spending the best part of four figures to upgrade our current handset?

Year-to-year, the advancements feel minimal, especially with the anticipated artificial intelligence features delayed till October - but there are developments worth noting. First and foremost (and to the delight of high screen time users), the quartet of 16 handsets have bigger batteries and longer battery lives. The progressed A18 chip promises faster processing and there are new buttons. The customisable Action Button shortcut from the 15 is available on the full 16 family and is joined by the viral touchpad-like Camera Control. With differing pressure or by swiping, it will open the camera, take pictures, adjust shooting modes or zoom.

Experts agree the Cupertino-based tech giant has closed the gap between its standard iPhone 16 model and the Pro. The latter is known for its souped-up cameras – namely the additional telephoto lens, performance boost and higher refresh rate.

Both handsets have a 48MP Fusion camera and have experienced an improvement in picture-taking through added vibrancy and contrast and clearer images in low-light photography. Unlike the pared-back Pros, the 16 comes in an array of bright and bold colourways; pink, teal, blue, white or black. For scrolling, note-taking and holiday snapping, the base iPhone 16 does the job and does it well.

Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pros: breathable top layer for enhanced temperature regulation, 5,000 Aerocoil spring support

Cons: non-removable cover, so a mattress protector is advised

Simba’s Hybrid Pro offers a greater level of support, welcome news for anyone with back pain issues.

There are seven layers, all engineered to keep you comfortable. The top layers are made with temperature regulating, moisture-wicking wool which keeps you toasty in the winter and cool in the warmer months. Between the Simbatex open-cell foam layer, again designed to maximise airflow, and a high definition foam with edge support is not one, but two layers of unique patented Aerocoil spring foams made from strong titanium. There are 5,000 springs in total.

So while you get the cloud-like sensation on first contact, you’re not sinking into the bed or trapped in a body groove in the middle of the night. This is a pro or con, depending on your preferences; some enjoy feeling ‘held’ but as a sleeper who moves around a lot at bedtime, we liked the supportive freedom offered by the Hybrid Pro.

Getting it set up couldn’t be easier, although we advise roping in a bedfellow or housemate to help get anything bigger than a double out of the box. Carefully cut through the plastic wrap and unfold over your bed frame, allowing a few hours for it to inflate fully before dressing it with your bed linen.

Grind One Nespresso Machine

Key Specifications

If you love your coffee, then chances are you may already have heard of Grind, who owns several stylish espresso bars across London as well as its own range of whole bean and ground coffee blends.

Compatible with both original Nespresso pods and Grind Nespresso compatible pods, the Grind One is a retro-style Nespresso machine that unlikely many other designs, is made entirely from polished stainless steel. With aeroplane-style switches and a simple handle operation, it will look elegant and classic in any kitchen.

The machine has a 1.2L water reservoir with a handle for easy filling and a large empty pod container which can house up to 15 empty pods before it needs emptying - Grind has considered both practicality and style when creating this design. There’s even an adjustable drip tray to accommodate a range of glass (or mug) sizes.

If you’re a fan of fancy displays and LED, however, it’s fair to say this isn’t the Nespresso machine for you - the Grind Nespresso machine works via a simple handle whilst the 19-bar pressure pump helps gather every drop.

FOREO Luna 4

When FOREO launched the first LUNA way back in 2013, it had a tough job on its hands. The brand had to educate the consumer to replace their traditional (and free) manual method of facial cleansing with this hi-tech alternative. While your fingers can do a fine job in your morning and night routine, it has nothing on the facial cleansing device that has silicone touchpoints and deep cleansing modes that not only are more thorough but boost circulation and encouages collagen production at the same time.

The LUNA 4 - as the name suggests - is the latest iteration of the gadget that still boasts all the features you know and love of its predecessors but with added NIR LED light, heating and microcurrent. There are a variety of modes for gentle or deep cleanses and different massage patterns that you can control through the accompanying app. When on-to-go, you’ll appreciate the new travel lock.

Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool™ Formaldehyde purifying fan heater

One of Dyson’s bestselling fan heaters, this design may be on the pricier side, but when you consider that winter sometimes lasts well into April here in the UK, it’s a sound investment against whatever the conditions lay beyond your front door.

Not only does this bladeless gadget flood hot or cold air into the room, but it will purify and scrub it clean of 99.95 per cent minuscule formaldehyde particles (dislodged from old furniture or wallpaper) too.

As you’d expect, it boasts world-class Dyson tech, such as Air Multiplier technology that evenly propels air all while operating at country mouse-like noise levels. It can warm or cool a room incredibly quickly, so you won’t need it switched on for very long. The best thing about this heater is that it’s blade-free, making it ideal for anyone with curious pets or infants in the house.

NINJA Double Stack XL SL400UKWH Air Fryer - White

Best for: double dinner magic

We love our air fryers, but often it's a case of the beauty lying within. Typically offered in black or grey, air fryers aren't usually going to win any beauty contests.

It seems like one of the UK's biggest brands has been paying attention to this, because Ninja Kitchen has released an all-white collection that will fit in more seamlessly with kitchen palettes. What’s more, it’s been given the Marco Pierre White seal of approval, and if it’s good enough for the celebrated chef, who are we to argue?

This double-stack Ninja air fryer comes with two cooking baskets with a combined capacity of 9.5L. There are six preset functions and you can set both zones to finish cooking at the same time, even if they're at different modes or temperatures. It means dinner will be ready at the same time - no letting the chips go cold while waiting for the nuggets to cook.

Sold with a two-year guarantee.

Which brands hold Black Friday sales?

Almost every brand is likely to make some sort of offering as they angle for a slice of the Black Friday sales pie. Think major retailers like Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Harrods, John Lewis and more as well as all the luxury and high street brands that you can waggle a credit card at.

Over the years, more and more retailers have jumped the official firing gun with discounts, sales and promotions taking place well ahead of the event. Prices are already plummeting across the board. We’ve curated a selection of the best bargains currently available below.

From our deal round-ups to the Live Blog that we run all weekend long, you won’t miss a beat.

What is Black Friday?

The post-Thanksgiving sales event began as a means for retailers to clear their shop floors of old stock in time for the new year. Though there are a variety of myths and theories surrounding why exactly Black Friday is named as such, the most commonly accepted answer is that sales ledgers went from being ‘in the red’ to ‘in the black’ following the scrummage for brilliant bargains in the run-up to the festive period.

When is Black Friday this year?

Every year Black Friday takes place the weekend following Thanksgiving. This year, American Thanksgiving fell on Thursday, November 28, which means that Black Friday began on Friday, November 29.

Will Cyber Monday be happening this year?

It’s always been traditional to close the sales weekend on Cyber Monday, when discounted tech products tend to hog the limelight. If you’ve been patiently waiting all year for the price to drop on a new TV, tablet, mobile phone or practical purchases like washing machines, Cyber Monday on December 2 is your chance to pounce.
