Andy Murray returns to Wimbledon today to launch what could be his final title tilt at SW19.
The two-time champion is again unseeded and begins against fellow British hope Ryan Peniston.
Murray, 36, believes he is still “one of the best grasscourt players in the world”, but has not reached the second week of Wimbledon since 2017.
His first opponent, Peniston, 27, is ranked outside of the world’s top 250 at 268.
Here is everything you need to know before his first match...
When is Andy Murray playing at Wimbledon?
Murray was drawn in the second half of the Wimbledon draw, so will begin his campaign today (Tuesday, July 4).
As is typical given his status, he has been given a Centre Court slot. His match is set to be the second on Wimbledon’s premier court.
Due to the nature of tennis, specific times are hard to predict but a start time of 3.30pm is expected.
The scheduling comes as the Scot star pleaded with tennis bosses to give him earlier playing times to previous years.
He is eager to get home to spend some time with his children before bedtime.
He said: “Usually, I get given the late shift so hopefully this year they will put me on a little bit earlier.
“All the late matches end up being played under the roof. I would like to play slightly earlier in the day if at all possible so I get to see the kids in the evening.”
It is believed Murray is normally given an early evening match as that is considered the primetime viewing slot and he is one of tennis’s biggest names.
Who else is playing today?
Murray will play after the defending women’s champion Elena Rybakina. The Kazakhstani’s match against American Shelby Rodgers begins at 1.30pm on Centre Court.
After Murray and Peniston face off, no2 seed Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus will take on Hungary’s Panna Udvardy.
Meanwhile, over on Court One, world no1 Carlos Alcaraz begins his bid to add another grasscourt title to his recent Queen’s Club crown from 1pm. The exciting Spaniard, 20, takes on veteran Frenchman Jeremy Chardy.
Britain’s Cameron Norrie, who is seeded 12th, is third up on Court One and plays the Czech Tomas Machac.
Among the players flying the flag for Britain in the women’s draw are the British no1 Katie Boulter. She started her campaign against Australia’s Daria Saville on Court 18 at 11am.
Fellow Briton, Heather Watson, who is fifth in the British women’s rankings, will be third on Court Two against the Czech 10th seed Barbora Krejcikova.
