With the summer holidays over and many of us back in school or work attention has now turned to the changing season. Each year the clocks go forward in spring and back in autumn by an hour.
The period when the clocks are one hour ahead is called British Summer Time. This means there's more daylight in the evenings and less in the mornings. When the clocks go back, the UK is on Greenwich Mean Time.
For many of us our smartphones will automatically update making it easier to forget the time has changed, but it's still an important date to note. And while it does signal the end of the British Summer Time, it does mean the nation gets an extra hour in bed.
