When Did a $50,000 Truck Become Normal?
A $50,000 pickup has become a familiar sight in the American truck market, but many full-size models start below that price. Comparing configurations, equipment, and total ownership costs can help buyers avoid paying for features they don’t need – Shutterstock

A $50,000 pickup truck no longer sounds particularly expensive, even though that amount could buy a modest house in some parts of America decades ago. Today, full-size pickups routinely command prices well above that threshold, and buyers who want four-wheel drive, a roomy crew cab, and a few desirable upgrades can quickly approach $60,000 or more.

The numbers back up that sticker shock. Kelley Blue Book reported an average transaction price of $66,288 for a new full-size pickup in May 2026. That figure represents what buyers actually paid on average, not just the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.
