What Todd Boehly must do to appoint Julian Nagelsmann as new Chelsea manager

Chelsea entered a new era in May 2021 after Todd Boehly and the Clearlake Capital consortium completed a £4.25billion takeover at Stamford Bridge. However, many things signal that not a lot has changed under the new ownership model.

The Blues have spent over £600million on new signings in the last two transfer windows - more than any other Premier League club. In that time, Chelsea have sacked two managers as the trend of chopping and changing who sits in the dugout continues.

Graham Potter suffered the same fate as he predecessor, Thomas Tuchel, on Sunday evening with the club now searching for a new manager once again. football.london understands the process of appointing a new head coach will not be rushed with many candidates set to be considered.

Julian Nagelsmann has emerged as the favourite to replace Potter at Chelsea, football.london understands. Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi and Luis Enrique are all under consideration as well as the club put together a shortlist ahead of potential interviews.

Nagelsmann was replaced by Tuchel at Bayern Munich after being sacked during the recent international break and he already has a close bond with Blues technical director Christopher Vivell after working together at RB Leipzig. The German manager has impressed in the Bundesliga and already hinted that he may be open to a switch to the Premier League.

If Boehly feels that Nagelsmann is the right man to lead Chelsea in his long-term vision at Stamford Bridge, he will need to negotiate a compensation fee with Bayern Munich. Bayern are said to be open to negotiate with any club in order to save paying Nagelsmann a salary until 2026, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano added that the 35-year-old is open to discuss a long-term project with the Blues, but no club have held talks with Bayern regarding his compensation as of yet.
