What to say when children start asking if Santa is real - and how to keep the magic alive

Understandably, children are curious about the bearded man in red. There’s a lot of magic wrapped up in Santa's story - and Christmas itself is one of the most joyful times of the year, full of festive mystery. From Rudolph chomping on carrots and Santa polishing off his mince pies, to waking up and finding Christmas toys wrapped under the tree, it’s all part of the excitement.

As children get older, they’ll naturally start to question how Father Christmas can travel around the world in one night, eat all of the cookies left out for him, and whether reindeer really can fly. It’s often at this point that parents, grandparents and carers pause and wonder, what should I say?
