What time is Nicola Sturgeon's covid update? Where to watch and what to expect?

Nicola Sturgeon will give an update on the state of the covid pandemic in the Scottish Parliament later today.

During her address to MSPs the First Minister is expected to announce if coronavirus restrictions that have been in place since March 2020 can be scrapped.

It comes as cases of the deadly virus have increased considerably since the start of the month.

There were 1,805 people in hospital on Sunday with recently confirmed Covid-19, up 142 on the previous day, according to latest figures.

Meanwhile, there were 27 people in intensive care, up four, the data showed.

The Scottish Government said that due to a technical issue, Public Health Scotland (PHS) have been unable to provide the latest data on cases, deaths and vaccinations.

It said PHS is working hard to resolve the issue and hope to return to normal reporting on Tuesday.

What time is Nicola Sturgeon speaking?

The First Minister is expected to get to her feet in the Scottish Parliament at around 2.20pm on Tuesday, March 15.

During her 10-minute statement Sturgeon will announce the latest covid figures then take questions from opposition leaders Douglas Ross (Tories) and Anas Sarwar (Scottish Labour).

MSPs from all sides will get to ask questions for around 20 minutes.

Where can I watch the update?

The update will be streamed on the Daily Record's main Facebook page which can be viewed here.

What can I expect?

During the statement Sturgeon is expected to allow the lifting of covid restrictions in Scotland to go ahead as planned on March 21.

All current restrictions will be dropped across the country, including the need to wear a face covering.

However, the SNP leader is expected to urge people to practice caution when in indoor settings due to the high number of cases currently in circulation.
