The Red Bull group have made a big move internally, with Christoph Freund's move to Chelsea 'agreed' ahead of the announcement.
Now that Todd Boehly's first transfer window is done and dusted, all attention has swiftly turned to the structure of the club, with the American knowing that he only wanted to be an interim sporting director and not one for the long-term. football.london understands that talks to secure Freund from RB Salzburg started last month and since then, everything appears to have been agreed despite a recent admission.
However, no agreement has yet offiicially been reached with Salzburg, as confirmed by managing director Stephan Reiter. He told Sky Austria: "Neither Chelsea nor Christoph Freund spoke to me or the club management about something like that. Christoph recently signed a contract with us until 2026, which applies to him as well as to players, managers or coaches."

Whilst Chelsea try and strike an agreement ahead of an announcement, the Red Bull group have done something massive as change is the order of the day within the organisation.
This is because they have hired Max Eberl as the new sporting director RB Leipzig. How Boehly would have wished it would have been Salzburg instead but despite this update, it is expected that the Blues should get their way eventually.
Once Freund is in place, other sporting directors such as Luís Campos could be added to the structure as Chelsea look to employ footballing gurus who are capable of filling the void left by Marina Granovskaia, Petr Cech and Bruce Buck.
As well as working on the internal structure of the club, Boehly will be keen to continue targeting more clubs to add to his portfolio and maybe try and get his way with the all-star teams idea, two things mentioned in his recent SALT conference conducted in the United States.
