The Text Is Not About Devotion
Most people who encounter the Devi Bhagavata Purana encounter it through ritual, the Navratri recitations, the stotra chanting, the offering of red hibiscus at a Durga temple. The text becomes backdrop to practice. What gets lost is that the Devi Bhagavata Purana is, at its philosophical core, a cosmological argument. It is making a claim about the structure of existence, and that claim has nothing to do with whether you were born female.
