Florida has recorded 25 Vibrio vulnificus infections and five deaths in 2026, according to the Florida Department of Health's tracking page, with data current through Oct. 1. That death toll already equals the state's total for all of 2025, with nearly three months of the year still to go.
The update arrives as Tropical Storm Isaias moves across the Gulf toward the northern Gulf Coast. Six of this year's Florida cases, including one death, were reported in Bay, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties, the same Panhandle communities now preparing for wind, rain, and storm surge.
